The Amazon
Jeff Bezos’s success story will be credited to his e-commerce business, Amazon. In the early 1990s, he understood that there was around 2300% growth of internet usage. Realizing the potential of this, he established an online bookstore. He, with his then-wife MacKenzie Scott, founded Amazon in a garage in Washington in 1994. The entrepreneurship inspiration, Jeff Bezos, initially named Amazon as Cadabra but later changed it to Amazon based on the Amazon River in South America.
This was a strategic move. As of that time, website listing would be done alphabetically, and having a name starting with A would make it appear sooner on online searches. He launched Amazon with a goal of providing a selection of massive inventory as well as faster delivery. Amazon was hit, where he was receiving an overwhelmingly positive response in various locations.
By 1998, Jeff diversified Amazon by introducing the sale of online music and videos and eventually added other various consumer goods. He strategically, during that phase, started acquiring smaller competitors, such as pets.com, kozmo.com, etc. In 2002 he also launched Amazon Web Services, but eventually, he had to close down this channel due to severe losses. In 2007, he launched the Amazon Kindle, and by 2013, Amazon became the largest e-commerce business. The business empire growth of Amazon was now rising at a steady speed. The Amazon founders’ journey was now at a position where he became the world’s wealthiest person in 2017 with a net worth of $112 billion. They were aggressively touching various international markets like Europe, Latin America, India, etc. The business growth of Amazon was happening because of Jeff’s smart move of investing billions in global warehouses, logistic partners, etc. The e-commerce revolution was one of the main goals of Jeff Bezos. Eventually, he decided to step down from his role as a CEO. Andy Jassy succeeded him to be the new CEO of Amazon. Jeff Bezos’s success story didn’t just end here.
Other Endeavours
He looked into other projects like Blue Origin, Altos Labs, the Washington Post, etc. The Amazon founders’ journey now shifted towards revolutionizing space travel. Wherein he launched Blue Origin in September 2000, just like how the e-commerce revolution was at its peak. He wished to work on understanding space travel. In 2015, Blue Origin’s New Shepard successfully rocketed into space and then landed back on the launch site, achieving another success when, in 2017, New Shepard successfully landed the dummy passenger from space travel. In 2021, he launched a suborbital flight for more than 10 minutes with his brother Mark Bezos, Wally Funk, and Oliver Daemen. In 2013, he purchased the Washington Post for $250 million and invested in various technologies, such as Unity Biotechnology, GRAIL, Juno Therapeutics, etc. In 2021, he founded Altos Labs, which worked on cellular programming in the biotechnological department. The e-commerce revolutionary is a visionary leader who believes in focusing on customer satisfaction. Currently, Jeff Bezos is the second richest person with around $251 billion. Jeff Bezos’s success story will never be complete without talking about his various philanthropic works, where he has donated millions for causes like cancer research, education, housing, etc. Jeff Bezos, in his vision of entrepreneurship inspiration, has strongly supported fighting climate change.
